Low water pressure does not always point to a major problem in your home. There are things you can do to prevent water pressure loss as well. We have put together some tips on how you can increase water pressure using simple solutions.

  1. Clean Your Shower Head

Overtime, even the nicest showerheads become clogged or dirty. By removing the dirt and clogs, the water pressure in your shower should improve. Depending on how old your showerhead is and how much mineral deposit has built up, it may be a better idea to purchase a new showerhead altogether. If you are not sure how to take off an old showerhead and install a new one, our plumbers are happy to assist you.

  1. Thermostatic Mixing Valve

Most homes have a pressure-balancing valve which has a single knob responsible for controlling temperature and water flow. Since this type of valve does both, water pressure can suffer when other appliances are in use. A typical example is the water pressure in the shower diminishing when someone flushes the toilet. By installing a thermostatic mixing valve, there is a separate control for water temperature and pressure, which can solve your problem.

  1. Diverter Valve

Diverter valves direct water from the bathtub faucet to the showerhead. Overtime, the diverter valve can become worn out. When there is enough wear, the valve no longer opens and closes all the way. This results in a lack of water pressure when you turn on the shower. We recommend having one of our experienced plumbers replace the diverter valve for your. We can also inspect your shower to see if there is another reason there is poor water pressure.

Maintaining your plumbing system is the best way to avoid low water pressure in your home. You should be cleaning drains, bathtubs, faucets and showerhead on a consistent basis. This is what prevents mineral build up in the first place. While wear and tear is unavoidable, you can enjoy your appliances longer and spend less time and money having them repaired.
