Leaks can be a frustrating issue when it comes to your home and your plumbing. This is especially true when you don’t know where the leak is originating from. When it comes to hidden leaks, there are certain places we suggest you look.

The most common sources of hidden leaks can be found: under your foundation, near your HVAC unit, inside your walls, and under your sinks.

Your Home’s Foundation

A foundation leak is also known as a slab leak. This occurs when the leak in a pipe is located under the concrete slab foundation of your home. There are a few things that indicate you need to call a plumber right away. These include: wet carpets, warped flooring, mold smells, and the sound of running water inside your home.

Your HVAC Unit

The HVAC system in your home is designed to remove the condensation that is created while it is running. If the drain lines in your unit have a leak in them, you will most likely find water around this area. The best thing you can do at this point is to call a plumber and turn the unit off to prevent further damage.

Your Sink

Although your faucet may not be dripping, there can still be a hidden leak connected to your sink. Not many of us check under our sinks regularly, so these types of leaks can go unnoticed for some time. The area of the pipe that is leaking may also be hidden between the sink cabinet and the wall it is attached to. You can inspect this area by looking for any water damage around the sink and wall area.

Your Walls

The pipes that run throughout your home are hidden by the walls, floors, and ceiling. Any areas containing pipes have the potential to spring a leak. If you notice any stains on your drywall, wet areas on your floor, or wet and stained areas on your ceiling, you most likely have a leak in that area. This type of leak can also go unnoticed for some time, resulting in damage to the structure of your home. The sooner you contact a plumber, the faster your issue can be controlled and corrected.
